The Hecuba Project

Tapisserie La Vengeance d'Hécube, Anonymous, Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lyon, France

The Hecuba Project is a continuation of the collaboration between EST/LA and the Warrior Bards of USC. The goal was explore this classic Greek tragedy and see how the words of the war vet, Euripides still ring true today. This all veteran cast performed scenes from the play and then discussed how the lessons of the play affected them – and how their experience as veterans influenced how they interpreted the play.

Hecuba is a play that looks at the experiences of war from a female perspective and explores the legacy and the personal sacrifices that are an inevitable result.

Warrior Bards

Warrior Bards is a project for veterans that is funded by the Arts in Action initiative at the University of Southern California. Using ancient Greek tragedies as a jumping off point, the program offers veterans an opportunity to study the classical texts and use them as a way to explore their own experiences of war and homecoming.
